Five-day intensive RYA instructor course on a well-equipped yacht, including all food and accommodation, focusing on teaching techniques, feedback, and course planning to Day Skipper level, requiring personal sleeping bag and RYA handbooks.
This is a four-day course, taught by two RYA Coach Assessors during which the candidates are continuously assessed.
Candidates should be able to complete tasks such as sailing around a triangular course, man overboard recovery, sailing in tight circles, and sailing a follow my leader course.
As a dinghy instructor you must be a competent, experienced sailor capable of sailing a training boat in strong winds, handling a small powerboat and be able to communicate with a diverse range of people from novices to improvers, adults and children.
The 2 days of coaching will concentrate on good briefing, the running of sessions to improve student performance and the delivery of quality group debriefs. In order to run successful sessions a good practical knowledge of keelboat techniques and manoeuvres (under sail and engine) is expected.

This course bridges the gap between Start Sailing and Basic Skills and the five advanced dinghy sailing modules, by consolidating your skills, helping to build your confidence and support the development of good technique and independent sailing. It may also provide a brief introduction to some of the different advanced sailing modules.
The course will cover the use a simulator, on water demonstrations and group teaching techniques and control and you will spend the majority of the week on beginner equipment. The five-day course is taught by a RYA Windsurf Trainer and is moderated on the final day by a second RYA Windsurf Trainer.

This is a great way to take your windsurfing instructing to the next level and start to coach the higher-level schemes, introducing students to more dynamic techniques with the thrills and spills of the sport, and getting them into the harness and footstraps.
We train you in teaching techniques at the top of the sport, with the emphasis on personal coaching and elite performance. Achieving the RYA’s Advanced Instructors qualification is as high as you can go before becoming a Windsurfing Trainer. The qualification means you teach advanced skills at any high-performance windsurfing centres running RYA courses.
Candidates must endeavour to attend their instructor training course within 12 months of passing the powerboat skills assessment.
